Wovenology was an idea that came to fruition at a 70th birthday party in Shropshire. The company was founded a few months later by two families living in Shropshire, the Yates and the Bishops.
Steph Bishop was born and bought up in Kenya and has always had a fascination for African baskets, she works in community development in Ghana and fell in love with the colourful Bolga baskets at first sight. After working with communities in Ghana for four years she decided to pursue her dream of working fairly and directly with communities to bring Bolga baskets to Europe . She continues to travel to West and East Africa on a regular basis and visits the weavers as much as possible.
Jo Yates has a passion for colour and interiors. Her love for colour and vision help bring the baskets to life. Jo manages sales and marketing and spends a lot of time wrapping up orders.
John and Mike Yates have been running a successful family business in Shropshire since 1974. They have a long-standing business relationship with Africa and a passion for the continent. With many years of business experience, they provide the commercial expertise in the day to day running of the company.
Delali Ahiable is our Ghanaian partner who lives in Accra . He has worked with Mike and John in the past and now provides the vital link between the UK operation and the weaving community in Bolgatanga. He oversees the production of our orders as well as quality control and shipping. His expertise and local knowledge play a vital part in helping us work closely in partnership with the weaving community.
